Melville Senior High School - New Performing Arts Centre
Agency: Department of Education
Established in 1960, Melville Senior High School is an Independent Public School with a student population of around 1,400 and over 180 teaching and support staff. Students at Melville SHS have access to a state wide Gifted and Talented Academic Selection Program, State Accredited Specialist programs in aviation studies, graphic design, media and Netball, a school based, merit selected Academic Extension Course, and a widely acclaimed Music in Focus program.
The project scope included the construction of a new theatre, education support spaces, and the upgrade and relocation of a series of transportable classrooms.
The $4.4 million contract for the construction and works for the new Melville Senior High School performing arts centre was awarded to EMCO Building.
The new building will feature two connected spaces for drama and dance, both with sprung floors and divided by a movable wall. There will also be retractable seating for 300 people, a green room, foyer and gallery space, as well as storage and a staff study.
The project is scheduled for completion in late 2019.
