What drew you to the role of Local Content Adviser?

When the opportunity came up for me to work in the role, I jumped at the chance.  I was excited to have the opportunity to build relationships with industry groups and small to medium sized (SMEs) businesses across the Pilbara and connect them to government procurement opportunities.  In particular, I am passionate about increasing participation in the Buy Local and Aboriginal Procurement Policies and working with industry groups to understand these important government initiatives.  I’m also excited to be working alongside the Pilbara Development Commission and contributing to their vision for the Pilbara:  ‘vibrant and sustainable communities underpinned by a strong, diverse economy’.

What do you love about your region?

I have only recently moved to the Pilbara and have a love of the rugged and beautiful landscape.  The red dirt gets into your blood!  The community are welcoming and embracing and there seems to be a good diversity of SMEs working hard to establish themselves and be successful in the region.

Tell us something about yourself

My hometown is Manjimup in the south west of WA.  The red dirt may get in the blood but the tall forests of the south west will never leave my heart.  I spent most of my adult life working in Perth for a range of government departments – Agriculture, Landgate, Finance, and also spent a number of years in the not-for-profit sector in disability and international aid.  I’ve been fortunate to have had a varied and fun career. What makes me tick professionally is to build strong relationships, connecting people to achieve outcomes and to always look at improvements for the better.  I’ve travelled around Australia with my husband and two Border Collies, love the outdoors and camping and to me the best place to be is sitting by a campfire looking up at a big, bright starry night.
